Day 1: What is your fictotype? Are you a specific character, a nonhuman species, or both? I am Odo, from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine; a Changeling. Day 2: Do you experience dysphoria? How so? As a headmate, I can fairly easily escape dysphoria by going into headspace and being myself, even if I am stuck with a human body when in front. Day 3: Who are you open about it with? Only fellow headmates, Plural people, and Otherkin/Therian/other Alterhumans. Day 4: Do you participate in the fandom of your source? How do you do so? No, although some of my friends are fans of my source and I don't mind them being fans around me. Day 5: Do you fictionflicker? No. Day 6: When did you realize you were fictionkin? How long have you been in the community? I've always known; I awakened while my host was watching my source for the first time. I officially entered the community a few months after awakening, when my host created a PluralKit account for me on Discord so I could interact in Alterhuman servers they are in. Day 7: What was your introduction to fictionkin? We are friends with several Fictionkin people, and so I learned quite a lot about it from them. Day 8: Are you similar to your fictotype in personality? How so? Um, sort of. Not in every way though. I'm more laid-back and have a stronger sense of humor. But my sense of justice is the same. Day 9: Are you similar to your fictotype in appearance? How so? I'm a shapeshifter, as is my canon self, so when I want to I can look exactly like my canon self. I've also developed a few forms my canon self doesn't have, though. So... it varies. And of course this is only in headspace. Our body looks nothing like me. Day 10: Link to/tag your favorite fictionkin Tumblr. I've never been on Tumblr. Day 11: Have you ever met other fictionkin? In real life or online? Online, yes. I have several Fictionkin friends via Discord. Day 12: Have you ever met canonmates? In real life or online? How did it go? Another headmate in our system is from the Star Trek universe, does that count? We get along. Day 13: Have you ever met doubles? In real life or online? How well did you get along? One of my friends is in a system with another Odo, but he's quiet and doesn't interact much. We've talked a couple times and get along. Day 14: What are shifts like? I don't really experience shifts much. When I do it tends to push me out of front because the body can't shapeshift, so I go back into headspace where I can shapeshift. Day 15: How do you deal with kin-for-fun? Frankly I think it's stupid. Just call it roleplaying for crying out loud. Don't try to horn in on a subculture you clearly know nothing about. Day 16: What are your thoughts on symbols, flags, etc.? They serve a purpose. I don't see a need for them myself, personally. Day 17: Does fictionkinity connect to spirituality for you? I... Don't really have a spirituality. So, no. Day 18: Does fictionkinity connect to neurodivergence for vou? No one in our system is neurodivergent (so far) so no. Day 19: Do other people notice your similarity to a character or species? I don't really front enough in real life for people to notice, and online I'm just myself, so the similarities are... expected. Day 20: How do you express your fictotype? Clothes, merch, cosplay, maybe even name? I would feel tremendously uncomfortable expressing myself in such a way. Unless you count online. I go by my name there. Day 21: What's something about the fictionkind community that you wish was different? I mostly wish that Fictionkin were better understood and accepted in the larger Alterhuman community. Day 22: What's something about the fictionkind community that you appreciate? We all share many of the same struggles and there is comfort in solidarity. Day 23: How do you approach consuming your source? Analytically, obsessivelv, casuallv. reluctantlv. etc... Reluctantly. Very reluctantly. I... don't like having a source. It's very uncomfortable to see other people try to portray me and my friends from my source in media. Day 24: What's the worst anti-fickin take you've ever seen? I encountered someone once who had an entire presentation prepared and ready to sling at a moment's notice against Fictionkin. Essentially deciding that since they didn't believe in alternate realities or the multiverse, therefore such things couldn't exist, therefore Fictionkin can't exist. They weren't open to discussion, if anyone tried to point out that belief is belief and not fact, they would simply call the other person stupid, wrong, and "enabling". Day 25: What's the best anti-fickin take you've ever seen? Respond to it. Best? Excuse me? No. Just no. Day 26: What are some songs that remind you of your fictotype or source? The song "Faithfully" by Journey reminds me of my relationship with Nerys. It also makes me melancholy and miss her terribly. Day 27: What are some other characters/species that remind you of your fictotype? We (my host and I) have a friend whose source is the game Changed, wherein a race of latex shapeshifters exist and can even transform other species into their own kind. We've had many conversations about our nature as beings who can turn into puddles. Day 28: Do you have a favorite piece of fanart? (Better to reblog for this day, do not repost someone's art.) Not really. My host commissioned a friend to draw me once, if that counts. Day 29: Do you have activities that connect you to your source? (Food, hobbies, interests, etc.) Uh... no. Honestly, I try to stay disconnected from my source. Day 30: Talk about what it's like to be your fictotype. I'm just... me. This question would be like me asking a human to describe what it's like being human. How can you describe it when it's your only frame of reference?
